Status & Activities
Fazenda Mungo is currently in a development and early expansion stage.
At this phase, the focus is on establishing production systems, developing internal infrastructure, and generating the technical knowledge required to support future commercial operations. The project is advancing deliberately, allowing performance and suitability to guide decisions. Commercial production has not yet begun.

Avocados — Expansion Phase
Avocados represent the most advanced component of the project.
Orchard development is based on high-quality clonal avocado plant material, sourced from South Africa, and has moved beyond initial establishment into a structured expansion phase.
In parallel, Fazenda Mungo operates greenhouse facilities used to produce grafted avocado seedlings, supporting both internal expansion and future planting flexibility. Current efforts are focused on:
of avocado orchards using clonal material
of in-house nursery capacity through grafted seedlings
of agronomic practices based on field performance
The development of nursery capacity also allows the project to support aligned planting initiatives in the surrounding area, where appropriate.
This capability has been designed with a view to future shared-value business models, including the potential to facilitate access to quality grafted avocado seedlings for third parties, once the project reaches the appropriate stage of maturity.
While commercial harvests have not yet taken place, avocados are clearly positioned as the lead crop within the current development strategy.
Avocado development is also informed by participation in a broader regional cluster initiative focused on export-oriented production in Angola’s highlands.
Medicinal & Aromatic Plants - Trials
Fazenda Mungo has initiated trial activities for high-quality dried medicinal and aromatic plants, as part of its broader crop evaluation and learning strategy.
These trials are focused on:
- Assessing agronomic suitability under local conditions
- Evaluating quality parameters relevant to dried plant material
- Understanding long-term production potential before any scaling decisions
As with other trial activities, no commercial production has begun. Progression beyond trials will depend on technical performance, consistency, and alignment with long-term project objectives.
Other Crops - Trials & Evaluation
In parallel, Fazenda Mungo is conducting small-scale trials of other crops, including:
MACADAMIAS
PINEAPPLES
ARABICA COFFEE
These activities are intended to:
- Generate technical data under local conditions
- Support informed decision-making
- Avoid premature scale before viability is demonstrated
These crops remain at exploratory or trial stages, with no commercial production currently planned until sufficient performance and consistency are achieved.
Infrastructure Development
Infrastructure development is progressing in line with the project’s phased approach.
Activities include:
- Land preparation for current and future planting areas
- Development of internal access and operational zones
- Preparatory works related to water management and site organisation
The project has dedicated on-site earth-moving equipment, enabling infrastructure to be developed progressively and in step with agricultural needs.
Technical Learning & System Refinement
A central focus at the current stage is technical learning.
Operational practices, planting systems, and infrastructure layouts are continuously assessed and refined, ensuring that future scaling decisions are based on experience and evidence rather than assumptions.
This learning-oriented approach is considered essential to the long-term sustainability and resilience of the project.
Summary
Fazenda Mungo is currently focused on preparation rather than output.
By prioritising expansion where performance is proven, maintaining trials where uncertainty remains, and developing infrastructure progressively, the project aims to build a robust foundation for future commercial, certified, and export-oriented agriculture.
